When does my Protection Plan coverage start?
For most Protection Plans, your coverage would begin on the same day as your plan purchase.
For carry-in extension plans, your coverage would begin on the day that the manufacturer's warranty on your purchase expires.
Can I use my protection plan to trade in a product?
Protection Plans help to insure your purchase against hardware failure or damage, and cannot be utilized for trade-in purposes.
For our GPU trade-in program, your plan will not have an impact on the value of store credit offered for your GPU.
Can I return my protection plan?
You are welcome to return your Protection Plan at any time before it expires. Returns on Protection Plans outside of the first 60 days of ownership will be prorated.
Can I extend my Protection Plan?
Protection Plans run for their listed duration at the time of purchase, and cannot be extended beyond this coverage period.
Does having Priority Care+ impact my protection plan at all?
Priority Care+ does not currently have any impact on your Protection Plan and is a separate service altogether.
What's the difference between the manufacturer's warranty and a Micro Center Protection Plan?
Most items purchased from our stores come with a default manufacturer's warranty, and this is coverage offered by the manufacturer directly, generally offering coverage on manufacturer defects and faults through regular use of the item. Manufacturers generally require that the item be shipped back to them directly to be able to honor the warranty, and this can take some time to facilitate.
Our protection plans are insurance plans that offer similar coverage, but with the ability to have this taken care of directly in our stores! Instead of having to go through the lengthy process of shipping your purchase out to the manufacturer, we can take care of you right at your local Micro Center, and can usually facilitate your coverage on the same day that you bring your purchase in.
Can I add a protection plan to an in-store purchase without coming back into the store?
If you purchased your items at a Micro Center retail location, we kindly ask that you return to your store with your receipt to add a protection plan to your purchase.
If you would like to add an accidental damage protection plan, we do ask that you bring your purchase with you back to the store for a brief inspection, after which we can add a protection plan to your purchase.
How long do I have to add a protection plan to my purchase?
You have the full return period of your product (15 or 30 days, depending on the item) to add a protection plan to your purchase.
Can I transfer my Protection Plan to another person?
Yes you can! To transfer your plan, we kindly ask that you reach out to our team through our live agent chat on our website, and they will be happy to assist with your plan transfer.
We do require that you provide us the following to initiate the transfer:
- The serial number of the device (if applicable)
- The reference number from your receipt
- The full name, address, mobile number, and email address of the individual you are transferring this plan to

I swapped out a few parts on my PC that is still under Protection Plan coverage. Are these new parts covered as well?
Your Protection Plan coverage would be limited to the original components installed in the device, and would not cover upgrades or component swaps.
Are stolen/missing devices covered under a Protection Plan?
We're sorry to hear that your device has been misplaced, however, protection plans do not cover theft or lost goods. We recommend consulting your insurance provider for the best next steps.
What do I need to bring to the store to facilitate my Protection Plan coverage?
Please bring in the item that has a Protection Plan tied to it, and your receipt if you have a physical copy. If you do not have a physical copy available, we can often look up your coverage information with your email, phone number, or product serial number in-store.
Can I add a Protection Plan to an open-box item?
Protection Plans can be purchased for *open box items!
*Please note that open box Apple products are eligible for Micro Center protection plans, but are not eligible for AppleCare.
Can I redeem my Protection Plan with another repair center?
At this time, our Protection Plans are exclusive to our stores, and cannot be redeemed at other repair centers.
Does my Protection Plan allow me to extend my return period?
Protection Plans do not extend the return period of your product.
Can I add a Micro Center Protection Plan to a purchase from another retailer?
We regret to inform you that our Protection Plans would only be facilitated by us directly, and cannot be redeemed with 3rd party.
Can I add a Protection Plan to my Phone/Drone purchase?
At this time, we do not currently have any Protection Plan offerings for phones or drones.

You have from the day your shipment is delivered through your return period to add a Protection Plan to your purchase.
