This article provides some basic and common troubleshooting steps for some of the most commonly asked questions regarding troubleshooting the Google Chromecast.
- If you see a black screen or a no signal screen:
- Plug in the Chromecast device using the power cord and power adapter that came with the Chromecast device. Use a different outlet to be sure the outlet is working.
- Make sure the LED light is lit up on the side of the Chromecast device.
- Change the TV input to the same HDMI input as the Chromecast device.
- Test the Chromecast device on another TV or in another port on the same TV.
- Reboot the Chromecast device by unplugging it for about a minute and then reconnecting it.
- If you get a "Reconnect Me" error:
- Check your Internet access to see if other devices on your network are working. If not, contact your ISP for further assistance.
- Check to make sure you are using the correct password or access code for your INTERNET.
- Check to make sure the Chromecast device is within 15-20 feet of the wifi router.
- If you have a first-generation device, try using the HDMI extender.
- Reboot or reset the Chromecast device.
- If you cannot cast to an Android TV.
- Check the current version of the Google Cast Receiver
- From the Android TV home screen, select Settings and then Google Cast.
- Check the version number.
- Get the latest version of the Google Cast Receiver:
- Sign in to Google Play on your Android TV then
- Select My apps, then Google Cast Receiver, and then Update.
- Check the current version of the Google Cast Receiver
- If you cannot find Chromecast in the Google Home App:
- Check your Internet connection.
- Check to make sure the Chromecast device is within 15-20 feet of the Wi-Fi router.
- Verify the color of the LED light. Chromecast should have a white flashing LED light.
- Solid white means Chromecast is ready to cast or is casting.
- Pulsing white means Chromecast needs to be set up.
- Pulsing red or orange means Chromecast is currently updating. It should work after the update.
- Solid Red means there is an error with your device and you may need to reset it.
- Make sure the Chromecast is able to see other networks.
- Make sure your computer or mobile device is connected to the same Internet connection as the TV.
- If using an Android device that is powered by Android Marshmallow, make sure Location Services is turned ON.
- Perform a factory reset.
- Open the Google Home app.
- Tap your Chromecast device and then click Settings.
- At the top right, tap More and then Reboot.
- Check your Internet connection.
- If the LED light on Chromecast shows a pulsing red light and a black screen.
- Perform a reboot on the device and power off your TV.
- Try using your Chromecast on another TV.
- Perform a factory reset on the Chromecast.
