Factory resetting a Dream Router restores it to setup mode, erasing all previous configurations. This can be done via the web interface if you have account access, or physically by pressing the reset button for 10 seconds. Both methods remove all user data, preparing the device for new setup.
Factory Resetting a Dream Router is an excellent step when you just purchased the device, or if there have been too many changes that may need to be undone. A factory reset will wipe the unit and bring it back to setup mode allowing everything to be entered again. We have two methods to reset a device. Web-based and Physical reset.
Web-Based Reset
This method works if you do have an account and have access to the configuration interface. Mainly used for when you want to revert a lot of changes and start from the beginning without moving or changing the cabling on the dream router. There are two methods of connection, local and remote. While connecting remotely will allow you to factory reset it, a local/direct connection would be needed to setup the device again. You may remotely connect to your Dream Router through unifi.ui.com and signing into the owner ubiquitti account. A local or direct connection would be done by a device already connected with an ethernet cable, or by the wireless network on the Dream Router. Note after a reset the wireless name will change.
- Connect to the Dream Router's ip address (default: 192.168.1.1) or visit unifi.ui.com
- go to Settings gear near the bottom on the left
- Click Control Plane
- Click Console at the top
- Click Factory Reset
- We recommend erasing drive data to remove any previous recordings from UniFi Protect, however if this is brand new, this may not be required. Click Factory Reset
Physical Reset
A physical reset works best if your no longer able to access the web interface, or your account isn't the owner of the device. A factory reset removes all user permissions from the unit and brings it back to setup mode. This would require direct access the Dream Router.
- Plug Dream Router into Power
- Confirm Device is fully powered up by checking for a blue Light around the top.
- Press Factory Reset button on the bottom of the dream router for about 10 seconds.
- A message appears on the screen saying restoring to factory defaults, and begins flashing white.
