How to Manually Clear the Print Queue in Windows 11

If your documents are stuck in the print queue and won’t print or cancel, you may need to manually clear the queue. This guide walks you through how to stop the Print Spooler service and delete pending print jobs.

Using Services and File Explorer

Step 1: Stop the Print Spooler Service

1. Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.

2. Type services.msc and press Enter.

3. In the Services window, scroll down and find Print Spooler.

4. Right-click it and select Stop.

Step 2: Clear the Print Queue Files

1. Press Windows + E to open File Explorer.

2. Navigate to the following folder:

   makefile

   CopyEdit

   C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS

3. You may be prompted for permission. Click Continue.

4. Delete all files in this folder.

🗑️ These are the temporary files for pending print jobs.

Step 3: Start the Print Spooler Service Again

1. Go back to the Services window (or open it again via services.msc).

2. Right-click Print Spooler.

3. Select Start.

Your print queue should now be empty, and stuck print jobs removed. You can try printing again.
